Donald Trump adviser Rudy Giuliani says it's "an excellent idea" to make people on the government's terror watch list wear electronic monitoring tags so authorities can track them.
In an interview with NJ Advance Media, the former New York City mayor said those on the watch list are "on there for a reason."
The outlet suggests Giuliani specifically was referring to Muslims on the terror watch list; there is no direct quote.
"I would think that's an excellent idea," he tells the outlet. "If you're on the terror watch list, I should … know you're on the terror watch list. You're on there for a reason."
Giuliani, who is part of Trump's kitchen cabinet as an adviser on terrorism and national security, said such measures are being used in France – and that he would recommend Trump apply them in the United States if he's elected.
One of two suspects who murdered a priest during Mass in a Catholic church in Normandy Tuesday was wearing a monitoring device, the BBC reports.
"I put undercover agents in mosques for the first time in January 1994," he said, following the February 1993 truck bombing of the World Trade Center that killed six people.
"I did it because the 1993 bombing was planned in a mosque in Union City, New Jersey, and a second plan was uncovered to bomb our subways, which was foiled. And I kept those police officers in those mosques until I left as mayor."
