WSJ: Obama's Anti-Ryan Speech 'Political Fable'

The Wall Street Journal hammered President Barack Obama for vilifying House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan and trying to deceive American voters with a “list of untrue things.”

In an editorial Wednesday titled “Paul Ryan’s Hunger Games,” the paper ripped Obama for a speech to The Associated Press on Tuesday.

“This was a diatribe that managed to invoke ‘Social Darwinism’ and ‘a Trojan Horse’ in the same paragraph, amid the other high crimes that Mr. Obama says Paul Ryan wants to commit,” the WSJ said.

It added that Obama was trying to depict the Wisconsin Republican as “some political monster.”

Since Obama’s big initiatives have turned out to be unpopular and unsuccessful, he is reduced to demonizing everything Republicans do, the editorial said.

“He was elected on hope and change, but now his only hope is to change the subject to the ogres he claims are the disloyal opposition,” it said.

“The list of untrue things that Mr. Obama wants Americans to believe is evidently so long that Mr. Obama associated himself with Republicans, albeit mostly dead Republicans like Lincoln and Eisenhower,” the editorial said.

It accused Obama of weaving “a political fable carefully constructed to erase the record of the last three years and blame every current anxiety on a GOP House that has been in office for all of 14 months.”
