NBC newswomen Jenna Wolfe and Stephanie Gosk dropped a pair of stunning personal bombshells on Wednesday — they came out of the closet as a lesbian couple and revealed they are having a baby together.
"As of this week, I am about five months pregnant," Wolfe, 39, gushed in a blog post at
Today.com. "My girlfriend, Stephanie Gosk, and I are expecting a baby girl the end of August."
Wolfe, a globe-trotting correspondent who also anchors the “Today’’ show’s weekend edition, added that of all the “jaw-dropping, head-turning and eye-popping things’’ she’s done as a reporter, being pregnant is the wildest of them all.
“I swam with killer sharks, I jet-packed 30 feet out of the water, I scaled the tallest building in Canada,’’ she said.
“[But] nothing garnered more shock and awe (and, yes, some tears) than when I told people I was pregnant. Just writing those words — ‘I'm pregnant’ — is surreal to me."
Wolfe said she and Gosk, a foreign correspondent for the network, both agree “that THIS little girl will be the biggest and best adventure of our lives."
The news was announced on Wednesday morning’s “Today’’ show and is featured in the new issue of People magazine.
Wolfe told People that after she and Gosk, who’ve dated for three years, decided to start a family, she underwent artificial insemination.
She said the biological father of the baby is an anonymous sperm donor.
“The beauty is that we live in a time where there’s no need for secrecy,” Gosk, 40, told the magazine. The couple said they are also planning to wed.
Wolfe said on her blog that the first four months of her pregnancy were brutal. And she admits she doesn’t have a clue about some aspects of becoming a mom.
“I've never changed a diaper. I don't know how to decorate a nursery. I don't really understand what a breast pump is. And don't get me started on the feeding schedule,’’ she said.
