In what is believed to be his first phone call to a politician outside the U.S. since becoming vice president-elect, Mike Pence spoke to British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson late Thursday.
Earlier, Johnson praised Donald Trump as "a deal maker" who was looking for a free trade agreement with the United Kingdom, USA Today reported. And he told leaders in Europe to end their "collective whinge-o-rama" over Trump’s election.
"I believe that this is a great opportunity for us in the U.K. to build on that relationship with America that is a fundamental economic important to us, but also, great importance for the stability and prosperity of the world," the newspaper quoted him.
Pence and Johnson spoke for 10 minutes and it was the vice president-elect who placed the call., the BBC reported.
Just last year Johnson suggested Trump had been "out of his mind" for suggesting a ban on Muslims coming into the United States, but he is now far more optimistic about the future after Trump’s election, the BBC reported.
