Mike Reagan: Don't Delay Obamacare, Let It 'Crash and Burn'

By    |   Thursday, 24 October 2013 06:43 PM

Republicans should leave the Affordable Care Act alone and let it crash and burn, President Ronald Reagan's son, Michael tells Newsmax.

"The consensus is, outside of Washington, let it go through, let the worst thing in the world actually happen, be able to tie it to the Democrats, and allow Republicans to use that as an issue to take back the Senate of the United States and add to the Congress of the United States in 2014," Reagan told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"Let the Democrats own it. Lock, stock and barrel … That's what they need to do now. Let them own it and say hey, c'est la vie, you had your shot, you didn't go along with us, you own it."

Reagan also had tough words for Republicans.  The vicious infighting among Republican lawmakers over how to battle Obamacare would have his late father "rolling in his grave" — and will guarantee big losses at the polls if they don't stop, Reagan said.

"The Republicans aren't going to win anything if they don't stop their own infighting and sitting there and tearing each other apart and blaming each other," he said.

"They need to focus on the true enemy of all of the freedoms that we have. That's Barack Obama and, in fact, the Democrats. That's what they need to be doing."

Reagan criticized Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who's been taking heat from fellow Republicans for leading the battle cry to defund Obama in a marathon filibuster-like speech last month.

"It's absolutely asinine for Ted Cruz to be raising money to try and unseat [Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker John Boehner] and other Republicans back in Washington, D.C.," he said.

"We need to be unseating Democrats, not trying to find ways to unseat Republicans because we don't agree with them 100 percent of the time. Ronald Reagan would be rolling in his grave at this point that we're in fact attacking each other instead of attacking the true enemy out there: the Democrats.

"So, I would say [to] the Republicans, if I could say two words to them: 'Shut up!'"
