A former White House counselor who served under President Richard Nixon said Friday there could be a conspiracy brewing in President Donald Trump's White House regarding a trio of FBI investigations.

John Dean appeared on "CNN Newsroom with Brooke Baldwin" and accused the current administration of a massive coverup regarding relationships Trump and his people have with Russia.

"I come from the Watergate era of course, where the White House leaned heavily on the FBI. The regulations that are now in place are direct result of Watergate," Dean said.

"When a White House leans on the FBI, they're in a coverup mode."

Dean then talked about the FBI investigations into whether the Trump campaign had a relationship with Russia before the election, whether Trump or his former national security advisor Michael Flynn broke any laws by speaking with Russia regarding sanctions put in place by former President Barack Obama, and a dossier on Trump put together by a former British intelligence agent — the contents of which could be damaging if they're proven to be true.

Dean said something doesn't seem right at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

"There's a lot of FBI investigations but the White House is not cooperating in any of this," Dean said. "And when the chief of staff even talks about this with the No. 2 man in the FBI, he's sending signals."

Dean was referring to White House chief of staff Reince Priebus allegedly asking the FBI to dispute media reports about Trump's campaign and any relationship with Russia it may have had.

The Trump camp has denied anyone in its campaign or administration broke any laws regarding illegal contacts with Russia. The aforementioned 35-page dossier made several claims about Trump, including one that Russia had enough dirt on him to blackmail him.

A recent CNN report claimed at least some of the information contained it in has been corroborated by investigators.
