Special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian election interference has lost one of the FBI's leading investigators, ABC News reported.
Peter Strzok, a bureau veteran who spent most of his career working on counterintelligence cases, was brought onto the case in mid-July. He is now assigned to the FBI's human resources division. Last year, he helped lead the investigation into former secretary of state Hillary Clinton's private email server, even taking part in her interview by the bureau.
The New York Times reported last week Mueller wants to speak with White House officials as part of his investigation, and it was recently revealed the FBI conducted an early morning raid last month of President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
A spokesperson for Mueller's office declined to comment on Strzok's departure.
