1.5 Million Off Food Stamps Since Trump Took Office

1.5 Million Off Food Stamps Since Trump Took Office

By    |   Tuesday, 24 October 2017 09:01 AM

Since Donald Trump has been president, nearly 1.5 million people have dropped off the food stamp rolls, Breitbart News is reporting.

Breitbart attributed the figures to statistics provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The enrollment in the food stamp program dropped to 41,203,721 people for a decrease of 1,487,642 since Trump was sworn in. the website reported. The biggest decrease was recorded in March-April with over 500,000 people dropping off the rolls.

Breitbart noted Trump’s 2018 budget package proposed cuts to the programs and recommended states match up to 20 percent of the federal money allotted to it. Meanwhile, states have been implementing or reinstating work requirements to participate in the program, according to the website.

However, officials are warning the number of those on food stamps could spike in the August and September report, which has not been released yet. They note certain restrictions were eased and temporary benefits were granted in some states due to the impact of hurricanes Harvey and Maria.
