Donald Trump says his proposed temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States won't have any effect on his wealthy Muslim friends.
The admission came during the same MSNBC town hall event Wednesday at which he proclaimed women should face
punishment for illegal abortions — a position the Trump campaign
later amended.
"I have a lot of friends that are Muslim and they call me," Trump told MSNBC's Chris Matthews during the event,
according to USA Today. "In most cases, they're very rich Muslims, OK?"
Matthews then asked Trump whether those same Muslim friends would be allowed to enter the United States under a ban he would institute as president.
"They'll come in. And you'll have exceptions," Trump said, USA Today reports, suggesting Muslims would fight ISIS just to get such a ban lifted.
"Maybe they'll be more disposed to fight ISIS," Trump said, USA Today reports. "Maybe they'll say, 'We want to come back into America, we've got to solve this problem.'"
