Despite demanding a birth certificate and passport records from President Barack Obama in 2012, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is refusing to release the same,
according to The Guardian.
In 2012, the real estate tycoon was known for being a part of the "birther movement," a group of people who claimed Obama was born outside the U.S., The Guardian reports.
In a YouTube video, Trump claimed he knew "very little about our president" and if the president released his records Trump would agree to donate $5 billion to a charity of his choice. But when The Guardian contacted the Trump Campaign to request his documents, a spokeswoman refused.
Michael Cohen, the executive vice president at the Trump Organization and special counsel to Trump, accused the British newspaper of “trying to be funny” and said the request for documentation was “stupid,"
The Guardian reported.
