Supporters of Al Gore are talking among themselves – and with the former vice president of Bill Clinton – about his running for president in 2016, reports say.

An unnamed senior Democrat tells Buzz Feed News, "They're figuring out if there's a path financially and politically," adding: "It feels more real than it has in the past months."

ABC's Rick Klein tweeted a former Gore adviser confirmed the Buzz Feed report.

The 67-year-old Gore was the Democratic presidential nominee and won the popular vote during the 2000 election to George W. Bush, though he lost the election.

In the years since then he's focused on environmental issues and business ventures, Buzz Feed notes.

Sources tell Buzz Feed News Gore hasn't made any formal or informal moves toward a run – and hasn't met with political advisers about the prospec.

And a member of Gore’s inner circle tells Buzz Feed he was "pouring lukewarm water" on the speculation.

"This is people talking to people, some of whom may or may not have talked to him," the adviser tells Buzz Feed.

Former Gore adviser Roy Neel called the idea of a bid "extremely unlikely," Buzz Feed reports.

Gore said in June it was too early to endorse Hillary Clinton.

Speculation has been swirling Vice President Joe Biden also could challenge current frontrunner Clinton as her poll numbers slide, and while the FBI investigates emails from the private server she used while she served as Secretary of State.
