Democrats: 'Thank You' for Palin's 'Bizarre' Iowa Speech

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s "bizarre" and "rambling speech" at the Iowa Freedom Summit has been ridiculed by conservatives while Democrats sarcastically declared, "Thank you."

After revealing last week that she’s "seriously interested" in running for president in 2016, Palin gave a speech to the conservative group at the Des Moines conference over the weekend that was called "meandering" and "incoherent, the Huffington Post reported.

Palin was forced to improvise after the teleprompter suddenly froze mid-speech, resulting in 2008 vice presidential nominee making a series of "peculiar" remarks about Hollywood, Obamacare, and Hillary Clinton, according to New York’s Daily News.

Palin made an even "stranger" comment about "‘the man can only ride you when your back is bent," the New York newspaper reported.

She said, "Things must change for our government. Look at it. It isn’t too big to fail. It’s too big to succeed! It's too big to succeed, so we can afford no retreads or nothing will change with the same people and same policies that got us into the status quo.

"Another Latin word, status quo, and it stands for, ‘Man, the middle-class everyday Americans are really getting taken for a ride.’ That's status quo, and GOP leaders, by the way, you know the man can only ride ya when your back is bent. So strengthen it. Then the man can't ride ya.

"America won't be taken for a ride, because so much is at stake and we can't afford politicians playing games like nothing more is at stake than, oh, maybe just the next standing of theirs in the next election."

The Democratic National Committee communications director Mo Elleithee quickly responded to the speech by saying, "Thank you."

John Fund of the National Review described the speech as "meandering and often bizarre."

Bloomberg's David Knowles wrote that the "rambling speech she delivered all but assured that few in her party would take her chances of winning seriously.

RealClearPolitics reporter Scott Conroy, who co-authored the book Sarah From Alaska, said on Twitter that he was stunned by Palin’s speech. "I don't say this lightly. This is the strangest speech I've ever seen Sarah Palin deliver," he tweeted.

And The Washington Examiner’s Byron York called the 35-muinute speech a "free-association ramble," saying, "It would be hard to say that Palin’s talk had a theme."

York noted that Republican blogger Craig Robinson had described it as "a long and incoherent speech," according to Bloomberg, which claimed that there have been several reports of broken teleprompters during Palin speeches.
