Left-wing comedian Rosie O’Donnell quietly removed anti-Israel artwork from her website Friday, after Twitter critics pummeled her for attacking the Jewish state over its summer war against Palestinian militants.
O’Donnell was selling an acrylic print she created, called "Israel Begins Bombing Gaza," which included the soulful image of a man carrying a child in a red dress.
Israeli bloggers quickly discovered that the photo was taken in the civil war in Syria, not the latest conflict in the Gaza Strip between Israeli forces and Hamas militants. The picture is also licensed by Getty Images, a news photo service, and O’Donnell admitted she used it without permission.
"Following my expose of Rosie O’Donnell’s anti-Israel 'art' based on a photo from Syria, the comedienne and 911 troofer received much flack from Israellycool readers and other lovers of freedom and truth," wrote Aussie Dave on the "Israellycool" blog
The 9/11 reference recalls O’Donnell’s claim
that Arab terrorists did not fly planes into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon outside Washington in 2001.
The blog post ran under the headline: "We Get Results! Rosie O’Donnell Quietly Removes Anti-Israel Artwork From Store."
Aussie Dave noted he could not tell whether O’Donnell removed the artwork because of the onslaught of complaints or because she apparently violated Getty copyrights.
"It is not clear whether she did this because Getty Images threatened to come after her, she realized the artwork was fraudulent, or felt it may hurt her career," he wrote. "Either way, by not acknowledging her mistake and surreptitiously removing the art, O’Donnell has only reaffirmed what a coward she is."
The Thursday blog post showed the disputed artwork
O’Donnell, a co-host of ABC’s "The View," strongly defended her art and insisted she is not anti-Semitic.
O’Donnell, however, has frequently demonstrated her distaste for Israel.
In 2010, she strongly defended Helen Thomas, a veteran White House correspondent who resigned after telling Israelis to "get the hell out of Palestine" and "go home" to Poland, Germany or the United States.
