The conservative House Freedom Caucus is threatening to formally oppose the American Health Care Act unless dramatic changes are made to the Republican proposal by Wednesday night, a source said Tuesday.

The plan to repeal and replace Obamacare, in its current form, is "going down as of now," the source told CNBC.

The caucus has 25 "hard" votes against the proposal, the source said, with at least two other members leaning toward opposition.

The legislation is expected to be voted on in the House on Thursday. Any statement of opposition from the caucus would most likely delay that vote.

CNBC also posted a tweet of at least 26 Freedom Caucus members opposing ACHA:

However, President Donald Trump predicted earlier Tuesday "we're going to have a winner vote" Thursday.

"We had a great meeting," he told reporters as he left a meeting with Republicans on Capitol Hill. "They want a tremendous healthcare plan.

"That's what we have — and there are going to be adjustments," he added. "I think we'll get the votes."

In addition, Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, another conservative GOP member, said on Twitter he could not support the bill should it reach the upper chamber:
