Anthony Senecal, Donald Trump's former butler, wrote on his Facebook
page Wednesday that the military should have shot President Barack Obama during his first term, Mother Jones
The Trump campaign quickly disavowed the statements, and the U.S. Secret Service said it was investigating the comments.
"Tony Senecal has not worked at Mar-a-Lago for years, but nevertheless we totally and completely disavow the horrible statements made by him regarding the President," a Trump campaign spokesperson said in a statement, according to ABC News.
“The U.S. Secret Service is aware of this matter and will conduct the appropriate investigation,” agency spokesman Robert Hoback said in a statement.
Senecal's post was available only to people on his Facebook friends list, but Mother Jones said Senecal confirmed he wrote the post.
"I wrote that. I believe that," Senecal told the publication.
Here is the entirety of the post:
To all my friends on FB, just a short note to you on our pus headed "president" !!!! This character who I refer to as zero (0) should have been taken out by our military and shot as an enemy agent in his first term !!!!! Instead he still remains in office doing every thing he can to gut the America we all know and love !!!!! Now comes Donald J Trump to put an end to the corruption in government !!!! The so called elite, who are nothing but common dog turds from your front lawn are shaking in their boots because there is a new Sheriff coming to town, and the end to their corruption of the American people (YOU) is at hand !!!! I cannot believe that a common murder is even allowed to run (killery clinton) OR that a commie like bernie is a also allowed to also run !!!! Come on America put your big boy pants on---this election you have a choice---GET YOUR ASS OUT AND VOTE !!!! Thank you !!!!
It isn't Senecal's first screed against Obama, many of which are viewable on his page even by people who are not on his friends list. He has called on Obama and members of his administration to be hanged and once agreed with a commenter that first lady Michelle Obama should get the same treatment.
Trump's presidential campaign told Mother Jones that Senecal, 84, has not been employed at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate for several years. In a New York Times article published in March, Senecal said Trump rejected his plan to retire in 2009 and talked him into remaining on as "unofficial historian" of the estate at which he had worked since 1959. (Trump bought it in 1985.)
Senecal said he receives no pay for the historian position, but does make money conducting tours of the estate.
