President Barack Obama’s plan to expedite the permit for the southern part of the Keystone XL pipeline is simply “a photo-op” to help his troubled re-election campaign, says conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh.
Obama “is in deep trouble on the re-elect side,” and appearing to authorize the pipeline will help appeal to the rest of the country, Limbaugh said Wednesday on his radio show.
“Our president, Barack Obama, who doesn’t like oil… is going to Cushing, Oklahoma, today for a photo-op near the southern leg of the Keystone pipeline,” Limbaugh said. “He claims, all of a sudden, that he’s fast-tracking.”

“After months of steadfast opposition, passionate opposition, with detailed explanations of why the Keystone pipeline’s bad … [Obama] all of sudden wants to be seen now as approving the Keystone pipeline.”
By authorizing the portion of the pipeline that will run from Steele City, Neb., to Cushing, Okla., Limbaugh says, Obama will make it seem as though he is behind the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline while avoiding the controversial northern leg that is supposed to run from Hardisty, Alberta, in Canada to Steele City.
“He’s not going to do anything about the northern half of the pipeline,” Limbaugh said. “It remains blocked. The northern half of the pipeline remains unauthorized. And that’s the argumentative part. That’s the part that was going to go through sensitive … land in Nebraska.
“It’s going to be reported today or tonight that he has authorized the construction of the Keystone pipeline. He hasn’t, folks. He hasn’t. Nothing is going to change on the Keystone pipeline. It’s not going to be built. Not now. He’s not authorizing it to be built.

“He’s trying to have his cake and eat it too. He’s got to keep his base happy but he’s also got to create the impression among the rest of Americans that he actually cares about the country the way they do,” Limbaugh continued.
“That’s why he’s going to Oklahoma to create this literal false impression that he’s, all of a sudden, had a change of heart, he’s authorizing the Keystone pipeline. He is not authorizing the Keystone pipeline.”
