Calif. Passes Law Protecting Planned Parenthood

I’m not sure even Franz Kafka himself would find the latest inversion of moral norms in California believable.

According to Breitbart News, Planned Parenthood has persuaded the legislature to pass “Assembly Bill 1671 into law, making it illegal for journalists to distribute audio or video recordings of healthcare providers without their consent.” And Gov. Jerry Brown just signed it.

What’s wrong with that, you may be thinking. No one wants the doctor — patient relationship to be violated by TMZ or some other media vulture. But that’s not the motivation.

This bill is designed to prevent any future embarrassing coverage of Planned Parenthood like the organ harvesting racket the abortionists were running last summer.

Breitbart explains, “Last year, undercover journalists from the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) released a series of videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s alleged practices of exchanging the tissues of babies it aborts for monetary consideration and altering the position of babies during abortion to maximize the chance of harvesting intact organs.”

Those practices are vile and obscene and until Republicans in Congress did their usual duck and cover, there was a real chance funding for Planed Parenthood could have been ended or at least reduced. And that’s a real threat to Planned Parenthood, since it received more than a half a billion dollars from taxpayers each year.

What’s more, those recordings were not confidential and didn’t involve and patients, since Planned Parenthood insists the unborn are just “lumps of tissue” like a cyst. The recordings took place in public locations or involved non–confidential discussions. Non–confidential until the American public learned what Planned Parenthood was doing with the organs it harvested from the most vulnerable.

Then making the discussions confidential became top priority for the abortion industry.
If these journalists had secretly recorded an evangelical pastor advising a bakery that it violated Christ’s clear teaching to participate in a homosexual wedding, broadcasting that tape would be whistle–blowing at it’s finest and Pulitzer Prize material. But a tape proving Planned Parenthood sells baby organs is an illegal invasion of privacy subject to the full force of the law.

The courageous and enterprising journalists at the Center for Medical Progress have no intention of being censored or silenced. They announced that CMP “never recorded ‘confidential’ communications, so California’s existing recording law and the new distribution provision are simply inapplicable to our work.”

CMP’s David Daleiden added: “However, it is clear that Planned Parenthood does not want to be held accountable to the public whose taxpayer money it gladly takes by the hundreds of millions, and will even attack freedom of speech and the freedom of the press in order to maintain its own arbitrary levels of secrecy. “

I couldn’t have said it better myself.
