China Filling Trade Void in South Africa

Donald Trump has been banned from Madiba’s, the South African restaurant in Brooklyn.

N.Y. Madiba’s owner, Mark Henegan, believes Brooklyn is too diverse for Trump, who has drawn ire over his comments about immigrants, according to news reports.

This banning will most likely not register on Trump’s radar; however, Trump’s stance on immigrants could affect many Africans.

It will be important for a Trump administration to deal with each African country individually taking into consideration cultural, historic, and political differences that exist within each.

The best example to follow in this instance is how Bill Clinton was able to build on the U.S.-South African relationship post-Apartheid which eventually developed into a strong friendship with the late Nelson Mandela.

One area that Trump would be able to flex his business aptitude is on trade deals with Africa. The African Growth and Opportunities Act (AGOA) was born out of the Clinton presidency and encourages increased trade between qualified African Countries and the U.S.

Since this act, the U.S. has been slow to show progress on new trade programs that have the potential to boost the economies on both continents.

Instead China has been increasing trade drastically with Africa providing work for its rapidly growing population and restless economy.

Trump, if elected, will have the opportunity to stem the decreasing trade and foothold that the U.S. has in Africa by brokering more and better deals creating jobs and economic stimulation on both sides of the Atlantic.
