Donald Trump apparently has Mike Huckabee in his fan club.
Huckabee, a former and possibly future presidential candidate, is defending The Donald's stances on taxes and spending against the conservative Club for Growth,
CNN reports.
The Republican anti-spending group slammed Trump earlier this week after he said he endorsed universal healthcare and a proposal to raise taxes on Chinese imports.
Huckabee said he can empathize. The same group picked on him in 2008.
"According to that group, I'm also a tax-loving socialist. During the 2008 election they cherry-picked some factoids out of context from the deals I had to make from a 90 percent Democratic Arkansas legislature," Huckabee said in his daily radio commentary and reported by CNN.
Huckabee said Club for Growth should not be so focused on cutting taxes.
"I never understood when it became a mark of conservatism to run up debt on your children's credit card instead of biting the bullet and paying your own bills," Huckabee said.
Huckabee said he was not endorsing Trump, but would take a look at his credentials instead of taking the Club for Growth's "word for it."
