Trump: Right Leader Can Save America

By    |   Tuesday, 13 December 2011 11:23 AM EST

Time is running out to put the nation back together again, Donald Trump tells Newsmax, adding that the damage could be reversed quickly with the right leader.

The real estate mogul made the comment during an exclusive interview with Newsmax. TV before signing copies of his best-selling new book, “Time to Get Tough: Making America # 1 Again” in Boca Raton, Fla., on Sunday.

“We have tremendous potential,” Trump said. “It would actually be, with the right brain power, easy to put it back together again. We could be a rich nation again, very quickly.”

One way to get rich, or at least pay some bills? By taking oil from the Middle East in a to-the-victor-go-the-spoils arrangement, said Trump, who is set to moderate The Newsmax ION Television 2012 Presidential Debate on Dec. 27 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Trump summarized part of his book during the exclusive Newsmax interview, saying, “I talk about Libya, how we didn’t get the oil. I talk about Iraq, how we don’t get the oil. As soon as we leave Iraq, Iran is gonna get the oil. We just have people in Washington who don’t know what they’re doing. They’re not very smart. They don’t know what they’re doing.”

Trump, who noted that his book signings have been attracting droves of people, said, “I think the reason the book has become so successful and we have thousands of people no matter where I go — just thousands of people line up — is that our country is failing. It’s failing very badly.”

More than 1,000 fans lined up to have him sign “Time to Get Tough” at a Barnes & Noble store in Boca Raton on Sunday. And to meet the man.

“I love everything about him,” said Olga Burke. “He’s so powerful and so right-on-the-nail that I have to meet him.”

A woman from Finland who was visiting Florida with her husband waited in line for more than an hour. “We saw that this kind of happening is here and we were just interested in coming to see how this is,” said Terttu Parkkatti. “We have heard about him . . . It is interesting now you have this presidential election and he has very strong opinions about that. So, we are just curious.”

Trump isn’t surprised at such curiosity. “I just have a large group of people that really agree with what I say,” he said. “They totally agree with what I say and they know it’s right and they know the country has tremendous potential but we’re wasting it, and it’s getting more and more difficult to come back. We have to start soon.”

Trump criticized President Barack Obama’s performance, saying: “It all starts with the president. I mean we have a president that has no clue. He shouldn’t be there. He’s just doing a terrible job. He shouldn’t be there. How he ever got there is amazing.”
