Is Immortality Possible by Uploading Brain?

Friday, 15 May 2015 12:25 PM

It may seem like the stuff of science fiction, but tech experts now say uploading your brain to a computer to achieve immortality may be closer to becoming a reality than you might think.

In an interview at eMerge Americas, Martine Rothblatt -- founder of Sirius Satellite Radio and CEO of United Therapeutics – predicted the beliefs of computer scientist Ray Kurzweil that technology advancements will ultimately enable human being to live forever will prove true before the dawn of the 22nd century, CNBC reports.

One of the first stages in this process could include preserving a human's brain in software to keep them alive after the body has died.

"Taking a mind and offloading it to software is consistent with physics, and it's something that I think will be done in this century," said Rothblatt, whose company United Therapeutics does work in transplanting organs.

While that development may still be years away, she said a person's habits and mannerisms can be captured and stored by collecting data from their digital life.
