Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton likely expects to target Donald Trump on his truthfulness on the debate stage at Hofstra University, but she's "probably the biggest liar" who has ever run for the presidency, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Monday morning.
"I can't imagine that probably the biggest liar that ran for president of the United States is going to bring up lies," Giuliani, a Trump supporter and surrogate, told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program. "She told the FBI she doesn't know what confidential meant, what C meant ... this is a woman who lied three different times about what happened in Benghazi. She's lied about things related to national security."
Meanwhile, Trump has been getting ready for the debates in his own way, as Clinton has been in her own way, said Giuliani, telling the program the difference is that Trump has been given "highly specific policy speeches over the last two months."
"The idea that he hasn't been specific and hasn't drilled down on the issues is kind of a little silly," said Giuliani. "It's sort of the mainstream media not paying attention to the campaign. He's been more specific at this stage of campaign certainly than she has and he's been more specific than most presidential candidates."
Giuliani said that his major advice for Trump at this point is to just be himself.
"I think Donald Trump has done best when he just lets loose and be Donald Trump," said the former mayor. "The first couple of weeks after winning the primary, there was a lot of confusion. There was a big staff change. There's a lot of discussion of, you know, how things should be scripted and I think what we've all found that are working with him now is you let him be himself."
Trump, he continued is "an extraordinary political thinker himself and a great communicator, and it doesn't mean necessarily he has the advantage in the debate because she has, obviously, policy knowledge I don't have. She's been in government since I was a child. I don't remember a time she hasn't been in government in one way or another."
However, he believes Trump will comport himself "very, very well ... he's going to be Donald Trump."
