Fox News host and GOP debate moderator Megyn Kelly told Texas Sen. Ted Cruz
in an interview after Thursday's debate she believes him when he says he was supporting an amendment to an immigration bill only as a "poison pill" to kill it, but he did such a good acting job he looked just like the "Washington cartel" he says he opposes.
"I was checking your record to see does Ted Cruz want legalization or didn't he? I think the report supports you did not want it," Kelly said, but she said video she played at the debate of him appearing to support it "seems weird for the average person to see the acting when you're trying to sell it saying I want the bill to pass."
Cruz insisted he never said he wanted the bill to pass, but only that he wanted immigration reform to pass.
"You're talking about people coming out of the shadows. It seems like acting," Kelly said.
"Well, look, what I often do when debating Democrats, … is use the language of the Democrats to show their hypocrisy," Cruz said.
"It's just, you know, you're running on being outside of the cartel," Kelly said. "It seemed a little cartely. You're playing a cartely game."
Cruz said, no, that he is the only Republican running for president who opposes amnesty and a pathway to citizenship.
"You do have a consistent record on that," Kelly said.
