The chief strategist for Ohio Gov. John Kasich's GOP presidential bid is spinning his loss Super Tuesday by mercilessly mocking rival Sen. Marco Rubio as "more hyped than Crystal Pepsi."
In a memo sent out Tuesday night,
first reported by Politico, John Weaver argued Kasich is focusing on the primary March 15 in his home state.
"We are executing our campaign plan and John Kasich is the best choice moving forward for Republicans who want to stop Donald Trump and win the White House," Weaver writes, Politico reports.
Front-running Trump won seven states on Super Tuesday, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz won three, and the Florida lawmaker won one. Both Kasich and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson failed to win a single one of the 11 states up for grabs.
"Sen. Rubio has been more hyped than Crystal Pepsi, but he has flopped even worse," Weaver writes, comparing the Florida lawmaker to a Pepsi clear soda that was a sales disaster and pulled off shelves in 1993 after only a year on the market.
"Even a well-conceived, high-financed marketing campaign won't work if people don't want to buy the product. That's the Rubio campaign's problem.... Behind the nice packaging, voters are discovering there is little substance."
