Psychologist and Christian leader James Dobson issued a statement that said the 2016 presidential election will be a "great turning point in the history of America."
In a Facebook post about his radio program, "Dr. James Dobson’s Family Talk," Dobson called on Christian voters to weigh in because "we cannot and must not leave the future of our country to chance."
Beyond the presidency being at stake, the radio host urged voters to turn out because the election would also choose down-ballot candidates and initiatives that would affect "our constitutional right to religious liberty, the sanctity of human life, the meaning of marriage and the composition and nature of our entire judiciary."
"This election could represent a point of no return for many of the issues Americans hold dear," Dobson said.
Dobson did not mention Republican candidate Donald Trump in his message, but he has said he would vote for the real-estate mogul.
In an interview with Christianity Today, Dobson said that one reason he is supporting Trump is because of his selection of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as running mate.
"I've been a personal friend of Gov. Pence for more than 30 years. He is pro-life, pro-traditional marriage, a godly family man, a solid conservative, and a competent leader. There is no politician whom I respect more," Dobson said.
Trump also promised that he would protect religious liberties when Dobson spoke to him at a conference of religious leaders.
"We must pray that, if elected, he will keep his word," Dobson said.
