A new Detroit Free Press/WXYZ-TV poll shows Donald Trump gaining ground on Hillary Clinton in Michigan.
Clinton, who only a month ago held an 11-point lead over Trump in the Great Lakes State, has faltered while third-party candidates Gary Johnson and Jill Stein continue to lag behind.
- Clinton: 38 percent;
- Trump: 35 percent;
- Johnson: 10 percent;
- Stein: 4 percent;
- Undecided/refused: 13 percent.
"The race is tightening a lot in Michigan," said Bernie Porn, pollster for EPIC-MRA, who conducted the poll. "It may be a function of the timing of the survey and her health questions, (but) there has been a shift toward Trump. Whether it's going to be a permanent shift is yet to be determined."
The poll also showed that most Michigan voters oppose allowing more refugees into the country.
- Oppose: 53 percent;
- Favor: 36 percent;
- Undecided/refused: 11 percent.
"It's the lesser of two evils," Patti Maisonville, 55 of Farmington Hills, a self-described bipartisan Trump supporter, told the Free Press. "I think Hillary is playing above the law and I don't like that at all."
"I can't stand another Clinton in the White House," she added.
