Has a secret "Trump militia" been formed to protect supporters of the Republican national front-runner from "far left" protesters who attack them at campaign stops?

While there's no conclusive proof to say the militia definitely exists, there are some clues to suggest it does, according to RT.com, the first 24-hour Russian English-language news channel.

The first evidence is a Twitter account that sprung up last week, shortly after violent scuffles at a Donald Trump rally in Chicago on Friday and a man's attempt to storm a stage where the candidate was speaking. The account announced the creation of a volunteer group to protect the GOP front-runner's supporters from "violent far-left agitators."

The account, called "The Lion's Guard," said it represented an "informal civilian organization dedicated to protecting the safety and security of innocent, peaceful Trump supporters from violent Far-Left agitators."

The Twitter account didn't last long.

Its creator deleted it, saying he'd received a threat from someone who "just [direct messaged] me a photo of my child's school front accompanied by a 'I'm coming for him' message. I'm closing this account until safe."

But before it was closed more than 500 followers had responded, RT.com reports.
