Washington Post columnist David Ignatius told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program that the self-radicalization of people like Omar Mateen is a "riddle that will be with us for years."

Mateen came to the attention of the FBI twice, in 2013 and 2014, and was interviewed by the agency. The fact that he was deemed "not worthy of additional study" makes predicting future behavior extremely difficult.

"The question of how to stem the radicalization, self-radicalization of people like Omar Mateen is a riddle that will be with us, I think, for years," Ignatius told the program. "He seems to be a classic lone wolf, a troubled person with difficulty getting along with others."
