The Club for Growth Thursday night lashed out at GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, saying his Republican debate remarks on bankruptcy filings and donations to Hillary Clinton prove the billionaire businessman's got "a knack for playing both sides of any issue just like the worst of Washington politicians."

In one news release, the conservative political advocacy group's political action committee slammed Trump's explanation of four bankruptcy filings.

"Trump corporations have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on four separate occasions, including a 2009 filing that came after missing a $53 million bond interest payment," the group noted.

"Regardless of Donald’s current financial position, these instances meant debt had piled up, creditors were left awaiting payment, and assets had to be sold."

Trump's explanation of the filings, Club for Growth president David McIntosh said, weren't good enough.

"This sounds like the worst of Washington politicians: Trump is proud that he made money from filing bankruptcies that cost thousands of jobs for Americans," McIntosh said in a statement.

"That’s a terrible track record for a man who would inherit a massive national debt that will need to be addressed immediately in January 2017. The last thing we need is Donald bankrupting the United States."

In a second release, the group also hammered Trump's explanations of past donations to Clinton and other Democrats.

"In 2007, Donald Trump called Hillary 'terrific' and hoped that she would get the Democrat nomination for president," the organization said in its release.

The group also cited remarks from three years ago hailing Clinton as "a terrific woman… I really like her and her husband both a lot. I think she really works hard… and I think she does a good job."

The Club for Growth PAC also noted a Politico report on Trump's listing on the Clinton Foundation website as a donor who's given between $100,000 and $250,000.

The group charged Trump has also donated to Democrats including Nevada Sen. Harry Reid, New York Sen. Charles Schumer New York Rep. Charlie Rangel and former Montana Sen. Max Baucus.

"Donald Trump likes to claim he’s the best at everything he does," McIntosh said.

"Among the candidates who stood on tonight’s debate stage, it’s a safe bet that he’s the best, by far, at giving praise and donations to Hillary Clinton and liberal politicians.

"Trump has a knack for playing both sides of any issue just like the worst of Washington politicians.”
