Rudy Giuliani: de Blasio 'Creating Atmosphere of Police Hatred'

By    |   Monday, 22 December 2014 11:25 AM

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has created a lie that police have a hatred toward certain communities that's akin to spreading "Soviet propaganda," said former Republican New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

"I think he's guilty of creating an atmosphere of police hatred in certain communities. And, it is a lie. It is untrue. It's like Soviet propaganda. The police are not racist. There is not a systemic problem with police racism," Giuliani told "Fox & Friends" on Monday. "He's lost a tremendous amount of trust from the NYPD."

De Blasio's response to protests that a grand jury would not indict NYPD police officer Daniel Pantaleo in the chokehold death of Eric Garner last July on Staten Island was "textbook for what you shouldn't do," Giuliani said, adding the mayor was responsible for "letting those demonstrations get out of control."

When he was mayor, Giuliani explained people had the right to protest, but not to assemble "any place you wanted, and you had no right to block those streets."

"You go block those streets, you kill people. I don't know if the mayor understands this. He lets them take over the Brooklyn Bridge. Maybe an ambulance has to get over the Brooklyn Bridge, and somebody dies," he said.

Police officers were the ones responsible for saving lives, not de Blasio, President Barack Obama, or civil rights activist Al Sharpton, Giuliani said. All have questioned police policies in light of Garner's death, and the death of Michael Brown, a youth shot by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri last August.

"What lives does Al Sharpton save? What lives has de Blasio saved? What lives has the president saved? It's these police officers who (save lives)," he said. "They save us. And, they should be the heroes of the African-American community, because they were keeping them alive."
