Only 1 point separates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in the battleground states of Colorado and Pennsylvania, according to a new CNN/ORC poll released Monday.
The results in Colorado:
- Trump: 42 percent;
- Clinton: 41 percent;
- Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson: 13 percent;
- Green Party nominee Jill Stein: 3 percent.
The results in Pennsylvania:
- Clinton: 45 percent;
- Trump: 44 percent;
- Johnson: 6 percent;
- Stein: 3 percent.
Polls in both states showed a divide among white voters by education:
- White college graduates chose Clinton by 11 points in Pennsylvania; 16 points in Colorado.
- Whites without four-year degrees chose Trump by 19 points in Pennsylvania; 22 points in Colorado.
The CNN/ORC poll showed that age appears to play a factor for Trump: his numbers are lower among those younger than 45, while Clinton's numbers hold steady across age groups. Libertarian candidate Johnson's numbers are larger among younger voters.
Voters in both states said the economy is their main concern and believe Trump would be better at handling economic issues. Clinton comes out on top in both states regarding foreign policy, according to poll results.
Trump and Clinton are also running close to each other in Ohio, Florida, Nevada, and North Carolina, according to polls in those states, CNN reported.
The polls were conducted by telephone Sept. 20 through Sept. 25. The Colorado poll interviewed 1,010 adult residents and the Pennsylvania poll interviewed 1,032 adult residents.
A Bloomberg Politics national poll also showed Clinton and Trump in a tie.
