Michael Lewitt, a fund manager at Fifth Third Friday Management Llc., says he’s overcome his misgivings about voting for Republican candidate Donald Trump, especially since Democratic rival Hillary Clinton will be dogged by crisis and investigations.

“Neither candidate has anything to offer in terms of personal character,” Lewitt writes in the November issue of his Credit Strategist newsletter, "but I believe that Mr. Trump’s policies offer a much better future for America than Mrs. Clinton’s.”

Surveys have shown that most Americans have unfavorable views of the candidates, while polls have zig-zagged as each nominee plods through scandals and attacks. A Washington Post/ABC News poll today showed that Trump and Clinton were tied with 46 percent support among likely voters.

“Mr.Trump will enforce our immigration laws without punishing minority groups (especially Muslims), cut taxes responsibly and fairly and potentially reform the tax code, repeal Obamacare, nominate conservative judges to the Supreme Court and lower federal courts who understand that the Constitution was written to limit the scope of government, drastically cut back government regulations and adopt productive fiscal stimulus,” Lewitt writes.

A Clinton victory would trigger a constitutional crisis as Congress appoints a special prosecutor to oversee investigations into her conduct as Secretary of State in the Obama administration, he says. The Department of Justice may be considered too compromised to handle any investigation.

“Hillary Clinton has said she will maintain open borders, raise taxes, sustain Obamacare, nominate judges to the Supreme Court who will rewrite the Constitution and expand government, increase regulation and enact politically motivated stimulus that won’t create economic growth,” Lewitt says. “Her policies will further enslave disenfranchised minorities in cycles of violence and poverty as have Mr. Obama’s.”

Lewitt cites the exploding murder rate in Obama’s adopted hometown of Chicago among the president’s failures, which also include Obamacare, the Iran nuclear deal, anemic economic growth, politicization of the Justice Department, heightened racial division and trillions in additional public debt.

“Even if Mrs. Clinton were sincere about helping minorities and the disenfranchised, which I don’t believe she is, she will not be in a position to help anyone since her presidency will be crippled from its first day due to her own actions,” Lewitt says. “I will take my chances on Mr. Trump.”
