The economy of the United States is not recovering no matter how many politicians, bureaucrats, or pundits on television tell us otherwise.
We have a government-controlled economy.
When the government gets involved in the economy, then everything that would be illegal for the private sector to do becomes acceptable public policy for the government.
Consequently, the economy is a failure because there is no aspect of our government operations which are not a failure.
Unless there is a change in mindset, there is no hope that the economy can overcome such colossal mismanagement and corruption of the free market.
Up to now our politicians not only increase funding for the same failed programs and policies year after year, but they also create even more of them.
It defies common sense.
Which leads me to why Donald Trump differs from both the Republicans and Democrats who think like politicians.
The professional political class mentally lives in a delusional parallel universe protected against the consequences of the havoc and chaos they create. As long as they don’t send out emails enclosing pictures of them naked, they are well guaranteed to be re-elected.
Trump has the mindset of an entrepreneur, not a politician.
Entrepreneurs are different. They have actually to compete for profit and win.
The mindset of an entrepreneur, like Trump, requires the identification of reality, its acceptance, and taking appropriate action to have a successful outcome.
The reason Trump is succeeding in his run for the Presidency is that an awful lot of people understand, at least viscerally, that he lives in the same economic world and subject to the same rules they do.
The things he is saying are the things we in the real world are thinking or saying.
Trump speaks with an inherent sense of inner confidence and expresses personal ownership of his ideas. He makes no claim he is the heir to Reaganomics, the slave to the Republican agenda, or a devotee of hypocritical conservative ideals.
Trump is running on the Trump platform. He tells us he may change his ideas because he is constantly learning and is passionate about achieving success.
Like other billionaire entrepreneurs, Trump has built an organization that knows how to do things right. When you think about a Trump hotel or condo or whatever, you immediately associate that image with high quality and service.
Quality and service are unknown concepts in any politically associated enterprise.
Sure he has taken his lumps. But unlike the political mindset, Trump embraces both risk and success. Entrepreneurs learn from their failures. Politicians just spend more money promoting them.
I don’t know how to define common sense. But I am confident about one thing.
The professional political class — Republicans and Democrats — that have been running the United States during my entire lifetime have no common sense.
Trump, the entrepreneur, apparently does.
