Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee announced the arrival of his fifth grandchild Monday in an email to supporters of his Huckabee for President campaign.
George Huggins Sanders was born at 2:51 a.m. Monday morning weighing 8 pounds and 3 ounces and measuring 20 and a half inches.
“We are so very blessed, and we celebrate God’s latest gift to our family,” Huckabee said in the email.
Baby George is the third child of Huckabee’s daughter Sarah and her husband Bryan.
“George will give sister Scarlett and Huck a run for their money no doubt and will give their grandfather another reason to run for President,” Huckabee said.
According to the message, delivery took a long time, but Huckabee writes, “The little guy was worth the wait. He is PERFECT, of course!”
All five of Huckabee’s grandchildren are under the age of four, which means in his family, it’s “noise, toys, and diapers, and nose wipers!”
Sarah Huckabee Sanders is also the campaign manager of her father’s presidential run announced early last month. For now, Sanders is taking some time off the trail with her mother Janet providing a helping hand while other staff members take care of things.
“Sarah probably becomes the first presidential campaign manager in America to have a baby at the launch of a campaign, but it wasn’t like it caught us off guard, we knew little George was coming!” Huckabee wrote.
Sanders, 33, served as the national political director on her father’s 2008 campaign. Since then, she has managed Sen. John Boozman’s reelection victory in Arkansas in 2010 and served as a senior advisor for Sen. Tom Cotton’s Arkansas campaign in 2014.
In a statement, the Huckabee campaign praised Sanders for “directing Gov. Huckabee's Iowa campaign to a landslide upset victory in the Iowa caucuses.”
Huckabee’s 2008 campaign manager Chip Saltsman is serving as a senior advisor.
