The 2016 presidential primaries are just over the horizon and by all appearances, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee intends to run in the 2016 presidential election cycle.
Christian conservative Mike Huckabee successfully served as the governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007 until he decided to throw his hat in the 2008 presidential ring. Despite his long service as a state governor, at that time Huckabee's name was still relatively unknown. Thus, it was rather remarkable that he fared so well in the 2008 GOP primaries, ultimately coming in second after GOP nominee Arizona Sen. John McCain.

Since 2008, Mike Huckabee has been the host of a popular weekend show on the Fox News Channel as well as the host of his syndicated radio show "The Huckabee Report" that broadcasts over 600 stations. He is the author of more than a dozen books and has become known for his musical talents and his highlighting of conservative musicians. All of this has led to a greatly increased profile, which includes name recognition across the nation.
Here are 7 key political positions of GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee:
1. Religious liberty: At the 2014 Conservative Political Action Conference, Huckabee stated, "It's time for the government to scale back, not for people of faith to scale back. Religious liberty should be unimpeded in this nation."
2. Fiscal conservative: Mike Huckabee asserts he is a fiscal conservative claiming as governor, he enacted the “the largest tax cut in [his] state’s history” and “a nearly $1 billion dollar budget surplus when [he] left office.” However, Club for Growth, which espouses prosperity and opportunity through economic freedom,
does not endorse Huckabee and claims he raised sales taxes, increased state spending, and raised the minimum wage.
3. Abortion: Mike Huckabee is strongly pro-life and recently stated, "I have a moral obligation before God and a political obligation unto the Declaration of Independence and our constitutional form of government to believe that that life is a life worth living and a life worth protecting."

4. Gay marriage: Mike Huckabee recently made his strong conservative stance against gay marriage clear. In October, Huckabee told
Newsmax that if the GOP did not take a stand on social issues it would be walking away from him and voters.
"I don’t think the GOP is going to walk away from the entire body of values voters — but if so, then there would likely be no place for me as a voter or candidate." Huckabee indicated he would leave the GOP and become an independent.
5. Israel: As a Christian,
Mike Huckabee is a strong, vocal supporter of Israel. “Israel is our closest ally and friend in the Middle East, and they are suffering due to the weak policies of the Obama administration. The president has done little to recognize the growing threat of Hamas. God has protected this tiny, but increasingly powerful nation, and it’s time for the United States to do the same.”
6. Foreign policy: Mike Huckabee takes a strong view on foreign policy. He rejects a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and wants to protect American sovereignty and national security. Huckabee is concerned about the current administration's foreign policy, and at CPAC 2014 Huckabee stated, "Across the world, no one trusts us, no one listens to us, no one respects us, and no one fears us."
7. Energy: Mike Huckabee believes that
domestic energy production will make the United States stronger and help the economy — especially the middle class.
"High energy and higher food costs take away any upward mobility of the middle class. Extracting our own energy is not only job creation, but wealth retention for the middle class."
