Irish Aid Boat Steams Towards Gaza

Friday, 04 Jun 2010 07:48 AM

JERUSALEM — The aid-laden MV Rachel Corrie was steaming ahead hoping to reach Gaza on Saturday, five days after Israeli commandos halted a similar blockade-busting bid killing nine passengers, one of the Irish passengers said.

"We are around 150 miles from Gaza, continuing at a steady pace, and hope to arrive on Saturday morning," Jenny Graham, one of the activists aboard the vessel said, according to the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

"The Israelis have not been in contact with us. We remain as committed to ever to getting our 1,000 tonnes of aid and supplies to the people of Gaza."

There was confusion over the organisers' intentions as Free Gaza, another group involved in the efforts to bust the blockade, said earlier a decision had been taken to postpone the last leg of the voyage, but that it had not been possible to get hold of the boat.

Free Gaza accused Israel of scrambling communications.
