Egyptian Media Boss Reportedly Labeled Holocaust a 'Myth'

An Egyptian media boss close to President Mohammed Morsi once called the Holocaust a “myth,” according to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

The alleged remark by Fathi Shihab Eddim — said to be responsible for hiring the editors of all state-run Egyptian newspapers — comes several weeks after Morsi was accused of saying Zionists are “descendents of apes and pigs.’’

Haaretz cites an article by Front Page Magazine’s Daniel Greenfield that says Shihab Eddim made the incendiary charge in a 2010 article published by the Muslim Brotherhood.

"The myth of the Holocaust is an industry that America invented,” Fathi Shihab Eddim claimed in the article, according to Greenfield.

“U.S. intelligence agencies in cooperation with their counterparts in allied nations during World War II created it [the Holocaust] to destroy the image of their opponents in Germany,’’ Shihab Eddim continued.

It was also created “to justify war and massive destruction against military and civilian facilities of the Axis powers, and especially to hit Hiroshima and Nagasaki with the atomic bomb,” he allegedly stated.

In addition, Shihab Eddim also claimed that 6 million Jews moved to the United States during World War II.

Shihab Eddim’s reported quotes were quickly denounced by the Simon Wiesenthal Center, an international Jewish human-rights group.

“The time has come for the State Department to inform the Egyptian government that the United States can no longer tolerate such anti-Semitic rants and Holocaust denial behavior from another top Egyptian official,” the center’s founder Rabbi Marvin Hier told Haaretz.
