British Musician Gary Glitter, 70, Guilty of Sex Crimes With Minor

Friday, 06 Feb 2015 06:24 AM

British rocker Gary Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, was convicted in London Thursday of attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and one of having sex with a girl under the age of 13, according to BBC News reports.

The 70-year-old former singer, best known for his "Rock and Roll, Parts One and Two," which remain widely popular at sporting events, denied the crimes and was acquitted of three other charges.

Even as the conviction came down, officers were gathering further information on more potential victims, according to the BBC.

"Crimes such as these have repercussions for victims that can last for a lifetime," said chief crown prosecutor Baljit Ubhey, head of the Crown Prosecution Service in London. "The bravery of the victims and other witnesses in this case cannot be understated and their testimony has been vital in bringing Paul Gadd to justice."

This is not Gadd's first conviction for crimes of sexual impropriety; he spent four months in jail in 1999 for possession of child pornography.
