Family of British Man Killed in Spain Hotel Suspect Foul Play

By    |   Thursday, 15 Aug 2013 11:30 AM

The family of Tom Ousby, a 19-year-old British man killed in a fall from the top floor of his Majorca, Spain, hotel Aug. 1, do not believe his death was a suicide or an accident and suspect foul play was involved.

While police in Spain have said Tom Ousby’s death was "probably an accident," they have also said that they "can't rule anything out," the BBC reported.

Ousby, who had been working in the island’s tourism industry, was found dead at the Atlantic Park Hotel in Magaluf.

Tom Ousby’s older brother Lewis, 23, says they have been given practically no information by police and fear the fall is being treated as just "another drunken accident" despite reports Tom had been chased before plunging to his death from a 9th-floor fire escape.

Tom had no drugs in his system, and was found without a telephone or identification. The Ousby family, which first learned of Tom’s death through word of mouth, is convinced that he did not take his own life.

It was only when his mother typed Tom’s name into Google that she saw news articles that had already been published about his death, according to the BBC..

Lewis has criticized the British Foreign Office for being "very difficult" to deal with.

"We're calling them pretty much every morning and they say, 'leave it with us.' We call them back the next day and they've got no information for us whatsoever,” he said.

"As a family its making us pull our hair out. The longer we don't know, the more we're going to question it," Lewis Ousby added.

"We continue to provide consular assistance and remain in regular contact with the family,” the Foreign Office said in a statement. "The Spanish judicial police are investigating the death. We have advised the family to appoint a local lawyer who is best placed to gain information about the investigation."
