Tuesday, 28 Apr 2015 07:53 AM

The Wimbledon tennis championships have increased their total prize money pot for this year’s grand slam event by 7 percent to 26.75 pounds ($40.9 million).

“Wimbledon prize money is once again the highest ever in professional tennis,” Wimbledon chairman Phil Brook said at a press conference at the All England Club today.

The men’s and women’s singles champions will receive 1.88 million pounds each, or an increase of 7 percent on last year.

Earlier this month, French Open organizers raised its total prize money 12 percent to 28 million euros ($30.5 million). That compares with a record A$40 million ($30 million) at this year’s Australian Open and $40.8 million at the 2014 U.S. Open.

Wimbledon will start on June 29.
