Museum Shooter's Son Says He's 'Deeply Sorry'

WASHINGTON -- The son of James von Brunn says he wishes his father had died in the shooting at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum instead of a security guard.

Eight-eight-year-old Von Brunn, a white supremacist, is charged with first-degree murder in Wednesday's shooting of Stephen T. Johns at the Washington, D.C., museum.

Erik von Brunn said in a statement to ABC News and The Washington Post Sunday that he is "deeply sorry" for his father's actions. He says, "My remorse is all I have to give."

The 32-year-old von Brunn told The Post that his father's views were always part of his life. He says his father never insisted that his son share those views.

Erik von Brunn's mother says her son was not home Sunday and unavailable for further comment.
