California is the state with the most UFO sightings, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

More than 16,000 UFO sightings have been reported in California from 2001 to 2015 and 3,200 in Los Angeles County, numbers compiled by UFO experts Lisa Miller Costa and Cheryl Costa in their new book "UFO Sightings Desk Reference: United States of America 2001-2015."

The authors mined data from the National UFO Reporting Center and the Mutual UFO Network to produce the book. California is followed in UFO sightings by Florida, Texas, Washington, and Pennsylvania.

Overall, there have been more than 120,000 reported UFO sightings in the U.S.

Cheryl Costa, who also runs a UFO blog at the Syracuse New Times, said she noticed seasonal patterns of sightings with numbers climbing during the spring and summer.

Fox News reported in February that worldwide UFO sightings had hit an all-time high, with 104,947 reported sightings on record over the past 100-plus years.
