Former aide Mona Floyd is asking for punitive damages to be awarded against the Houston area congresswoman, saying that Jackson Lee made “humiliating” comments about her problem, Fox News reports.

And she says Jackson Lee regularly made her read documents for up to 18 hours a day without breaks and turned down her requests to rest her eyes.

Floyd says the problem arose after she started work as the congresswoman’s legislative director and chief counsel in early 2010. Floyd contends that Jackson Lee “only paid lip service” to the disabled, despite her public image of championing their cause.

At one point, Floyd claims, Jackson Lee told her, “I don’t care anything about your disability.”

The lawsuit, filed in the District of Columbia federal court, says Floyd has monocular vision, which reduces her reading speed. It says the problem worsens unless she has time to rest her eyes.
