Rep. Scott Perry: Americans Kept in Dark About Boston Bomb Probe

By    |   Wednesday, 01 May 2013 04:57 PM

Pennsylvania Rep. Scott Perry says the government has not been forthcoming in its ongoing investigation into the Boston Marathon bombings and how many people may be involved — which has made the nation wary about public safety.

“We’re skeptical … This administration hasn't been forthcoming with information on other cases that are important to the American people, namely Benghazi,’’ Perry told Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show.’’

“So pardon us for being skeptical and questioning the validity of the claims that nobody else is involved … We're concerned about our personal safety and we should be.

“America is full of soft targets because we're a free nation and we want to know everything that they know as they know it … but we don't trust them to protect us.’’

Perry’s remarks came as two men from Kazakhstan and a man from Cambridge, Mass., were arrested in the connection with last month’s explosions, allegedly carried out by Tamelan and Dzahokhar Tsarnaev.

Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev were charged with conspiracy to obstruct justice, and Robel Phillipos was charged with making false statements to law enforcement officials.

Both Kazakhstan men have been held for almost a week on immigration violations, authorities say, but Perry isn’t necessarily buying it.

“Do we really think that it was solely due to immigration charges? I'm sure they were building a case, they had other reasons, but’’ said Perry, a member of the Homeland Security Committee.

“But the point is that here again we're finding out about it now and that lends to a credibility problem, a trust problem we have with the administration on these things because obviously they knew something, but yet we didn't.

“And if they know that and didn't tell us, what else do they know and haven't told us? … We wonder what other shoes haven't dropped yet and is there an unsafe situation in your town or my town?’’

Story continues after the video.

Perry said he also has questions about the London Daily Mail report on Wednesday that a 2012 document from the Saudis warned the United States about Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

The report claims the Saudis denied his he application for a visa to go into Mecca — and that and Homeland Security was told about this.

“This coming from the Saudis, who I know we have some cozy relationship with, quite honestly I question,’’ Perry said.

“I'm concerned about because as many Americans believe and know in their hearts, the Saudis export two things: one is oil and the other is … extremist radical Islam as a culture.

“With that being said if he's too toxic for them and they told us, what the heck does that say about our system? It is completely broken and we know it.’’
