Liberals Worry About Voting Machine Company Ties to Romney Campaign

Thursday, 25 Oct 2012 10:07 AM

Ties between a voting machine company and GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney have sent liberal bloggers into a tizzy over fears of stolen elections particularly in swing states including Ohio where the company’s machines are used in the Cincinnati area.

Three members of Hart InterCivic’s board are Romney bundlers and the connection has been noted on websites including Salon and by a self-described “token lefty” blogger for Forbes, The Washington Post reported.

However, Hart InterCivic calls the concerns “unfounded” and the county administrators who use the system have shot down allegations that the machines could be manipulated.

Amy Searcy, the director of elections in Hamilton County, Ohio, that includes Cincinnati, told the Post, “We own our equipment, we own the software, we have a bipartisan team on staff that does all the pretesting, all the diagnostic maintenance, ballot preparation and vote tabulation. Hart has nothing to do with it.”

In Falls Church, Va., where the system is also in use, registrar David Bjerke told the Post, “There’s no way for the count to be manipulated.”
