David Gregory Slammed for Lackluster Interview of Rick Perry

Embattled "Meet The Press" host David Gregory has received a withering review of his nine-minute interview of Gov. Rick Perry after failing to dig into the issues behind capital punishment in Texas, which has the largest number of executions in the nation.

Salon slammed Gregory’s questions relating to a botched execution in Oklahoma, and his failure to ask Perry to talk about a 2004 Texas case of arsonist/murderer Cameron Willingham, who was executed despite pleas to review debunked science used during his trial and the fact that a paid jailhouse informant was also used to convict him.

Perry staunchly defended capital punishment in his state and Gregory didn’t challenge him, the magazine railed. "That’s preposterous, given the controversy Perry has faced in his state over his enthusiastic pursuit of capital punishment," Salon stated.

Perry is considered a possible White House contender in 2016.

Gregory has vowed to fix problems that have resulted in the program slipping to third place among Sunday morning political news shows.

In the first quarter of the year, "Meet the Press" trailed "Face the Nation" on CBS, hosted by veteran 77-year-old Bob Schieffer, and "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" on ABC.
