If you think that campaign ads are getting more vicious, you aren’t alone. A poll by The Hill of likely voters in 10 hotly contested congressional districts shows that 49 percent say political advertising is more negative than in previous elections, while 45 percent say the nastiness level is about the same. Only 3 percent of respondents say ads have turned more positive, The Hill reports

Karl Struble, a Democratic ad maker, who has worked for candidates in several states, says voters have it right. “It’s a higher percentage of negative ads than I’ve ever done,” Struble says. “When the mood of the country is bad, the public is much more likely to believe negative ads.”
