Sarah Palin, PETA Clash Again, This Time Over Dog Photo

Former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has landed in the middle of a heated row with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) after posting photos of her son Trig, 6, standing on the family dog in her kitchen.

Palin, on her Facebook page, incurred PETA's ire when she posted a photo of Trig, who has Down Syndrome, standing on the family dog Jill Hadassah, a service dog adopted from the Puppy Jake Foundation, The Hill noted.

"See, every stumbling block turned into a stepping stone on the path forward. Trig just reminded me. He, determined to help wash dishes with an oblivious mama not acknowledging his signs for "up!", found me and a lazy dog blocking his way. He made his stepping stone," Palin wrote.

PETA, outraged by what they saw as animal cruelty, went on the attack, The Hill reports, stating on its website, "It’s odd that anyone — let alone a mother — would find it appropriate to post such a thing, with no apparent sympathy for the dog in the photo.

"Then again, PETA, along with everyone else, is used to the hard-hearted, seeming obliviousness of this bizarrely callous woman, who actually thought it appropriate to be filmed while turkeys were being slaughtered right behind her in full view of the camera."

They were referring to a 2008 incident when Palin did a lengthy interview at the Triple D Farm in Palmer, Alaska, while live turkeys were being fed head-first into a killing machine in the background.

Not one to take criticism lightly, Palin slammed back, "Aren’t you the same anti-beef screamers blogging hate from your comfy leather office chairs, wrapped in your fashionable leather belts above your kickin’ new leather pumps you bought because your celebrity idols (who sport fur and crocodile purses) grinned in a tabloid wearing the exact same Louboutins?"

She attacked celebrities who support PETA, saying they eat at sushi bars featuring "dead, smelly roe" which she called "throw away parts of our wild seafood" that "suckers" pay "absurdly high prices to party with," The Hill reported.

"PETA needs to chill. At least Trig didn’t eat the dog.

"Did you go as crazy when your heroic Man-of-Your-Lifetime, Barack Obama, revealed he actually enjoyed eating dead dog meat?" she asked PETA.

Obama stated he had eaten dog meat in his book, "Dreams From My Father" while living in Indonesia between 1967-1971, Politifact notes, and found it "tough."

PETA President Ingrid Newkirk fired back at Palin's charges, saying in a press release, "We're a vegan organization, so we sit on pleather couches, wear stylish vegan kicks and consider fish friends, not food.

"Also, by the way, we just sent a case of vegan caviar to Vladimir Putin— and no, you can't see his house from yours, Ms. Palin.

"PETA simply believes that people shouldn’t step on dogs."
