Report: 6.5 Million Obamacare Customers Save $268 Per Month

Six-and-a-half million Americans signing up for 2015 healthcare plans on the federal Obamacare exchange are paying an average of $105 after tax credits, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

The figure only applies to consumers who selected a plan with tax credits, reports the agency on its website.  The 6.5 million Americans who chose one of those plans in the 37 states using the HealthCare.gov platform will save an average of $268 person, per month.

The figures could still change, since the data was gathered from Nov. 15 through Jan. 30.

"With just six days left before the February 15 deadline and the end of this year's open enrollment, millions of Americans already are counting on the financial assistance the Affordable Care Act provides to put quality, affordable health insurance coverage within reach," HHS Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell said.

"Consumers who sign up in states using HealthCare.gov are saving $268 a month on their premiums on average, and nearly 8 in 10 could select a plan with a premium of $100 or less with tax credits. This is further proof that the Affordable Care Act is working for the middle class."

The HHS report claims that 87 percent of Americans applying for healthcare via the federal exchange qualify for financial assistance.

Americans shopping for a new 2015 health plan must sign up for one by Feb. 15.

A recent report claimed the government is sharing the personal data from Obamacare customers with private companies that specialize in advertising and marketing.

"This new information is extremely concerning, not only because it violates the privacy of millions of Americans, but because it may potentially compromise their security," Republican Sens. Orrin Hatch (Utah) and Charles Grassley (Iowa) wrote to the Obama administration last month.
