NYPD Commissioner Bratton: Hatchet Attacker Surfed ISIS-Type Sites

By    |   Sunday, 02 Nov 2014 04:44 PM

Zale Thompson, the 32-year-old who attacked four New York City police officers with a hatchet before being shot dead, was accessing terrorist websites leading up to the attack, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said Sunday.

"He was accessing continually ISIS types of sites, and it probably sparked his vicious attack on our officers," Bratton said on "The Cats Roundtable" on New York's AM 970. Bratton said the NYPD is combing through Thompson's computer in the aftermath of the attack.

Thompson attacked four rookie police officers on Oct. 23 in Queens, hitting Joseph Meeker, 24, in the arm and Kenneth Healy, 25, in the head before the other two officers shot Thompson to death.

Bratton said Healy recently moved into a rehabilitation center and is "recovering very well." Though he still has a long way to go, Healy is in good spirits and want to return to the force one day, Bratton said.
